According to Ephesians 4:2 what is the purpose of humility, patience and gentleness in the church? 2. Can you think of an example of one person’s gentleness (humility or patience) that totally saved a difficult situation? 3. How many times does the word “one” appear in this passage? What is it emphasizing? Is there room for diversity in this “one” church”? Pray: Close your time in prayer. Ask for a volunteer to pray for unity in the church around the world. Pray for the church to ministry amidst divisive issues in our world. Pray that our church would use difficult issues as an opportunity to pursue unity and practice patience, gentleness and humility. Pray over requests that people share.

What does it mean to you that everyone is a part and plays a part in the body of Christ? Given your gifts and passions, what do you think your part might be in the church body? (vv.12-14) 2. What attitudes must we guard against in the body of Christ? (vv.15-17, 21-24) 3. How are we to care for one another in the body of Christ? In what ways have you felt the care of the church in your life? (vv.24-26) Pray: Close your time in prayer. Ask for a volunteer to pray for unity in the church. And pray that Christ and His church would be a reflection of hope and care in a divisive and hurting world. Pray over any requests that people share.
Church in Context [1 John 4:1-6] Icebreaker: If you could have one superpower, what would it be? Discussion Questions 1. What is the context in which the church exists? 2. What was the issue that was prevalent in the Graeco-Roman church? Have we been guilty of imposing the context of the culture onto the text of Scripture? 3. How can we allow the text to dictate the way we engage our context? 4. What is the good news for the church? Our hope in the midst of a changing context? Pray: Close your time in prayer. Ask for a volunteer to pray for the church to be an effective witness and a place for the preaching of the hope of the Gospel. Pray specifically for friends or family who need to hear this hope.
